The UN. is an organization of governments founded in 1945 after World War II. The organization’s objectives include promoting peace and security, protecting human rights, the environment and providing humanitarian aid in cases of famine, natural disaster, and armed conflict. Recent U.N. interventions include the Sri Lankan civil war in 2009 and the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. The U.S. joined the U.N. as a founding member in 1945. The U.S. is the largest financial contributor to the UN and contributes more than $11.5 billion or 25% of its total budget annually.

We need to fix this country before we take care of anyone else. This country has become that person who literally bleeds themselves dry in order help other people. We need to take time to nurture ourselves, maybe put the ice cream down, go take a spin class haha or how ever you wanna work out. You know maybe stop letting some of our useless ex boyfriends ( ie politicians) come around. Really work on ourselves and come together as a whole.
@9F9TTJN8mos8MO
World War 1 started because of the assassination of the duke of austria because austria was attacked they very quickly moved to war because they thought that whoever was behind it was working with the government of their country. Now if the united nations was around during this time first austria would've had to explain the UN what happened and a trial could have taken place to determine what really happened. Without it the process would not be a judicial process but who ever could fire first.
@9F87XCZ8mos8MO
The United Nations represents this new world in which we solve international problems through diplomacy and sanctions, not by killing old people. The United Nations is one of the best tools we have to continue and support this effort.
@9FB43FJ8mos8MO
Not that expensive, 12.5 billion may seem like a lot but it is .002% of the yearly tax revenue of 4.9 trillion. In contrast, think of how much more we would have to spend if we didn't have the security of mutual defense treaties facilitated by the United Nations. This is part of why I think it is a worthwhile investment.
While the percentage of tax revenue might seem insignificant compared to the overall budget, it's important to consider the potential uses of this amount within the country. For instance, the $12.5 billion could be utilized for domestic issues such as public health, education, or infrastructure. As for the mutual defense treaties, they are indeed significant, but aren't exclusive to the UN. The U.S. has separate defense agreements with many countries. Could such bilateral agreements serve the same purpose more efficiently? What are your thoughts on this?
@ISIDEWITH12yrs12Y
No
@9L9VQBYProgressive2mos2MO
United Nations protects human rights, delivers humanitarian aid, promotes sustainable development and upholds international law.
@9FMBRM38mos8MO
If we didn't have the UN, then it would be so much easier for countries to do terrible things to others. Plus, the goal of the UN is to create a unified front against bad things, whether those things are rogue states, or dangerous diseases.
@9FYD78N 7mos7MO
There should not be any kind of overlord above any government. Hell the government is already almost an overlord to me. I don't need more overlords.
@9FQ28BS8mos8MO
The United Nations is an extremely effective way to keep nations like Russia, China, and North Korea from attacking and is important to keep them even if money is "wasted on military defense."
@ISIDEWITH12yrs12Y
No, and remove the U.N. headquarters from the U.S.
@9F8X9W88mos8MO
If the United States were to remove themselves from the United Nations, our nation would be open to numerous threats and would break all alliances.
@9F5C56X8mos8MO
The UN HQ provides the US with a large amount of soft power that we should not voluntarily surrender.
@DeficitBitternLibertarian8mos8MO
While it's true that hosting the United Nations headquarters can contribute to the U.S.'s soft power, it's also worth considering the cost and security implications. For instance, New York City spends millions of dollars each year on security and other services related to hosting the headquarters. This is a significant burden on the taxpayers. Additionally, the presence of the headquarters can also pose security risks, as it can be a potential target for attacks. How would you address these concerns?
@9F7JTT28mos8MO
We don’t have to agree with everyone in the UN to be a part of the UN. It’s better to all involved to continue our alliance.
@9FDG78F8mos8MO
We need connections with other countries, its a vital thing that help figure out best solution and keep wars from happening,
@AgileCabinetLibertarian8mos8MO
While I understand your point about fostering international relationships, it's worth noting that the UN isn't the only platform for such interactions. The effectiveness and efficiency of the UN have been questioned multiple times. Plus, it’s not guaranteed that being part of the UN would prevent wars. Instead, the focus should perhaps be on diplomatic relations directly between countries. How do you see this perspective?
@ISIDEWITH12yrs12Y
Yes, and use the U.N. peacekeeping forces to protect our interests
@9FWDWCQ8mos8MO
The U.S. is always the one that puts in the most and is expected to do the most when it comes to the U.N. business (money, military and aid). President Trump called many other countries out on that issue during U.N. talks. The United States does not need the U.N. why have the expense and the headache and not be in charge. We can protect our interests and play things closer to the vest so to speak. Enough of being the worlds police department.
@ISIDEWITH12yrs12Y
Yes, but scale back our current involvement
@9L9VQBYProgressive2mos2MO
its policies, ideology, equality of representation, administration, ability to enforce rulings, and ideological bias.
@4PR6WX84yrs4Y
Calling the UN a "world government" is fallacious. It's more akin to an international negotiating table with a name and a permanent staff to keep it running. What we need is an actual world government. See you in 100 years.
@4W97ZPK4yrs4Y
We should push for an organization that only allows countries who respect human rights to have a say. Example: Why was Uganda under Idi Amin in the `70s and Lybia in 2003 allowed to have Najat al-Hajjaji in charge of the UN human rights commission? Like asking Hitler to oversee violations in a Concentration camp.
@4QDFKYN4yrs4Y
Yes only to veto the two state solution that's just the same thing as Hitler's final solution
@4QR5R984yrs4Y
No, and remove the U.N. entirely from existence. It is absolutely the biggest threat to our sovereignty as an independent nation and our freedom from a one world slavery system a.k.a. the NWO.
@4RDCW6G4yrs4Y
The USA should obey INTERNATIONAL LAW. We can cooperate fully with the U.N. without losing our sovereignty. Lately the USA has been a rogue nation.
@4Q6RT8B4yrs4Y
I agree with Trump and his decisions and determination on how to deal with United Nations. about time we're talking about this and we wouldn't be if he didn't bring it up.
@4QW6TX34yrs4Y
Donald Trump is correct. We need to renegotiate our affiliation with both the UN and NATO. If they cannot begin to provide funding for their own operations, then they need to go. The US has become their funding for anything they choose to do and America is fed up paying for their nonsense. We either need to have more control over what they choose to do or they need to get other countries to pay for it!
Deleted11mos11MO
Yes, although establishing a World Federation would be better
@598RBWD4yrs4Y
We should form a United Free Nations, that overseas the United Nations.
@4PWZRS44yrs4Y
Yes, but the U.N. needs to be more cooperative and proactive with the U.S.
@4PMN9NS4yrs4Y
Only If They Agree To Declare War On ISIS And Give Support To Gods Holy Country Isreal
@4PL25HB4yrs4Y
The feminists are taking over, if there were completely removed from the situation, then maybe I would support this.
@4NPKQ6B4yrs4Y
Yes, but if the headquarters is to remain in America then America should take lead roles. Open up a vote for Americans to place a seat like a speaker of house, but for U.N.
@4NY2GFK4yrs4Y
What UN? The one that ignores the human rights violations of Saudi and the other Islamic terrorists factories? Why does it exist? Human Rights are not involved in the current agenda. If it exists it should function as it is funded. Currently it does not.
@8RB2K9D3yrs3Y
I agree, I support the concept, but we need to exile the nations that dont obey human rights laws that we made in the first place
@4WCZBC24yrs4Y
Cut back U.S. funds for UN, move headquarters-- maybe France would want it-- and turn the building into a place for disabled homeless vets.
@4PNSJDJ4yrs4Y
Yes, and membership fees should be scaled based on population and GDP. We would still pay the lion's share, but other nations contributions would increase.
@4Q343QL4yrs4Y
Yes but rotate the headquarters. Sick of paying the costs and lawbreaking done by some "diplomats" and their family members.
@4VWFJX64yrs4Y
yes and move the UN HQ to Moscow, Russia so we can plant at least 500 additional spies over there:)
@4QPCRZX4yrs4Y
Yes, we need our allies to back us up, and they need us. The very notion that we leave is so misinformed and stupid that I am borderline incapable of appreciating the irony in it.
@4RH3V5G4yrs4Y
The UN should be more active in fighting ISIS and other world conflicts.
@4RB6F6F4yrs4Y
The US isn't part of the UN
@4Q9MPNG4yrs4Y
The UN is a racist joke, if Israel is the only country with violations against women the US should condemn their claims.
@4RW2XV74yrs4Y
Yes! And we need to pay our fair share and we need to encourage the UN to restructure based on 21st Century Realities as well as no Permanent Members of Security Council
@4Q9DRTM4yrs4Y
Yes. Use them to fight ISIS
@4QYFTP44yrs4Y
The UN is useless as it is now run by genocidal globalists.
@4QQ8F364yrs4Y
The United Nations no longer is valid. Sad, but has become like gangs against each other.
@4Q2G8644yrs4Y
If the UN continues to be anti-American, we should consider having the UN removed from American soil and reducing our financial support.
