California Senator Scott Wiener is introducing a new set of bills to make streets safer across the state, including one that would change how you drive.
It would require any new car or truck made or sold in the state in 2027 or later to have special technology installed in the car called "speed governors."
The device would make it physically impossible for vehicles to go 10 miles per hour over the posted speed limits.
"I don't think it's at all an overreach, and I don't think most people would view it as an overreach, we have speed limits, I think most people support speed limits because people know that speed kills," Wiener said.

I actually think something along these lines would be good. We just accept auto fatalities as a fact of life, but they really don’t need to be. If people just drove slower we would significantly reduce car crashes and fatalities. Only issue is this would have to be a federal law.

I'm sorry no thanks.... Also, this will tank new vehicle sales

Why would your vehicle ever need to surpass 100 mph?
Most vehicles are electronically speed limited anyway, and if you actually had the nuts to drive a vehicle at speeds in excess of 125 mph, you'd know that.

My EV is limited to 150 km/h and my wife's to 130. That's 90 and 80.7 mph. Never, ever reached those limits. In fact, I can't think of a reason why this tech is not implemented to every new car sold around the world. If somebody feels the need for speed there are racetracks.

All these ridiculous regulations just make cars more expensive and price middle class and poor people out of the automotive market. There’s a lot of demand for base models without all the bells and whistles, but they’re illegal to build and sell.
@GreenPartyMattDemocrat4mos4MO
Pretty sure all cars already have the hardware necessary to do this, with only new software needed.

This was one Senator, not the entire state. It’ll never make it past comitee, dumb bills happen all the time.

What a breath of fresh air. California is finally drowning out the noise of the opioid epidemic, sky-high crime and murder rates, anarchy and lawlessness in their cities, which are slick with human facies, and an invasion at our southern border to focus on what REALLY matters – this????????
